A one day road safety based workshop, targeted at riders who have limited riding experience, or are returning to two wheels. A pre-read/video presentation prior to course attendance will highlight certain aspects of modern day riding and the threat motorcyclists face each day. We then start the day with an overview of practical motorcycle checks before setting off onto Wiltshires road network. The day will encompass all road types including multi lane carriageways, single track lanes, and idyllic country roads. Vicarious learning is encouraged from all involved, including demonstration rides to reinforce learning objectives. This introduction will highlight your strengths and areas for development. We will provide written feedback should you wish to continue with any further riding coaching, or self learning. This Phase can be used as credit towards the Phase 2 course. (i.e. bypassing day 1 of the 3 day course.)
Designed for riders who haven't undertaken any further rider training. This Phase is conducted , ideally, over 3 consecutive days, based on a 2:1 ratio. You will be directed to complete online modules prior to attending your initial day. We then hit the ground running. Each rider will take the lead in approximately 1 hour blocks, broken up with debriefing sessions and vicarious learning. This 3 day course is designed to push your mental and physical limits, as such, it can be broken down into the Phase1 introduction, then return to us to complete the remaining 2 days of SYSTEM and front loading. Regular breaks are designed into the days in order to refresh and digest the information. Day one reflects Phase 1 above. On Day 2, we have an option to ride into Wales where we will build on the learning from day 1. We can stay overnight in Wales, which gives us an opportunity to discuss your progress in detail. Day 3 continues polishing your skills before consolidating all you have learnt into a mock Advanced test. You will be graded against the criteria for the IAM and RoSPA awards. Comprehensive written feedback is provided along with a certificate of attendance.
This 2 day course based on a 2:1 ratio is designed for riders who have completed the Phase 2 element, or who have completed an Advanced course. If you want your ego massaged this course is NOT for you. There is an expectation that riders who attend this course are on top of their game. You will need a good knowledge of Roadcraft and an openness to learning. Emphasis will be on exploiting opportunities to make safe progress. This is the environment to polish your skills to make you shine. Open and honest discussions will highlight your current standard of riding. We'll Identify your strengths and developmental areas of your riding. We'll provide ample opportunity to demonstrate the various elements to reinforce learning if required.
This workshop is designed to give riders a practical input in relation to pre ride checks, personal wellbeing, including noise induced hearing loss and the necessity for appropriate riding gear. We'll also talk about causation factors for collisions, attitudes, effects of alcohol, drugs and inattention on riding. Your legal responsibilities in the event of a collision and how to gather evidence at the scene, using a easy to complete form, which covers all the pertinent information.
To consider all possible situations where we can assist you would be impossible. We do, however have a number of skills which are very unique and specialised. For those riders who need anonymity and the highest degree of confidentiality, we offer 1 on 1 coaching. Adventure and dual purpose riding courses, comprising of on and off road elements. UK and European touring, both on and off the beaten track. If we are unable to assist you, we can certainly point you in the right direction.
An ideal alternative to reading Roadcraft alone. Perfect for riders who are in the process of completing the IAM or RoSPA rider courses and need an insight into what the examiner will be looking for.
As a novice rider I started off road riding with Budgie about a year ago. He has encouraged me to push my limits safely, with proper technique, and always with lots of laughs and no judgement. He chooses great and safe routes, always observing the correct etiquette. He seems to have insider knowledge of great coffee and cake spots too! My riding and confidence have increased significantly. Thoroughly recommend!
Having passed my Advanced Motorcycle Riding test many years ago I was keen to ensure that bad habits were not creeping into my riding and to brush up on those advanced riding skills. His approach to the day was always professional and relaxed which made learning easy. His light-hearted attitude made the session feel like a ride with a mate rather than some sort of lesson. I would definitely recommend Budgie if you want to improve on your riding skills no matter what level you’re at.
After 40 years of riding, 12 years of Advanced Riding and Blood Bike, 10 years of Track Days including being a BMW Owners Club Instructor and Off-road riding who would have thought there was anything left to learn. After a 1/2 day training session with Budgie it turns out there's plenty to learn!! Fab ride with a very knowledgeable Rider Coach! Highly recommended!
